REDUCE IMPACT
The Need for Ethical & Sustainable Energy Storage
At Fractal Energy, we believe that sustainability must extend beyond energy efficiency, it must also encompass ethical sourcing, fair labor practices, and continuous improvement. Our solutions are designed to minimize environmental harm, avoid conflict materials, and uphold high social standards—while still pushing for further advancements.

Conflict-Free Materials: Ethical Sourcing for a Cleaner Future
The Problem with Traditional Battery Supply Chains
Many batteries rely on cobalt, lithium, nickel, and graphite, minerals often linked to:
- Child labor and unsafe mining conditions (especially in the DRC for cobalt)
- Environmental destruction (deforestation, water pollution)
- Geopolitical conflicts and unethical trade practices

Fractal Energy’s Solution
Conflict-Free & Responsibly Sourced Materials
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Chemistry
Our BESS primarily uses LFP batteries, which eliminate cobalt, a mineral with the highest risk of unethical sourcing.
LFP is safer, more stable, and has a lower environmental footprint than traditional lithium-ion chemistries.
Certified Supply Chains
We work with suppliers certified by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) and adhere to OECD Due Diligence Guidelines for mineral sourcing.
All critical minerals (lithium, graphite) are traced and audited to ensure they come from conflict-free, ethically managed mines.
Recycled & Low-Impact Materials
We prioritize recycled materials where possible, reducing the need for virgin mining. By 2030, we aim to increase recycled content in our batteries to 20% for lithium and 50% for cobalt (where used), aligning with EU targets .

Fair Working Conditions: Upholding Human Rights in Our Supply Chain
The Challenge: Exploitation in Battery Manufacturing
The battery industry has faced criticism for:
- Poor labor conditions in mining and manufacturing
- Lack of transparency in subcontractor practices
- Wage theft and unsafe work environments
Fractal Energy’s Commitment
Ethical Labor Practices
Safe & Humane Working Conditions
All manufacturing partners must comply with ILO (International Labour Organization) standards and local labor laws. Regular third-party audits verify compliance with health, safety, and wage regulations.
No Child or Forced Labor
We enforce a zero-tolerance policy for child or forced labor, in line with UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
Supply Chain Transparency
We publish an annual sustainability report detailing our supplier audits, labor practices, and corrective actions taken.
Our Battery Passport (EU 2023/1542) will soon provide customers with full traceability of materials and labor conditions.
CSR Labels & Certifications
Proving Our Sustainability Claims
To ensure transparency and accountability, Fractal Energy’s BESS holds or is working toward the following certifications and labels.

Fractal Energy’s Disclosure
Labels and Certifications
EU Battery Regulation Compliance (EU 2023/1542)
We commit to disclose the Carbon footprint declaration (mandatory from 2025), the recycled content labels (cobalt, lithium, nickel) and the Digital Battery Passport (full supply chain transparency by 2027)
B Corp® Sustainability Rating
We are actively pursuing B Corp® certification to benchmark our CSR performance against global standards.
Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP)
Ensures our mineral suppliers meet ethical and environmental standards.
KEEP IMPROVING
How We’re Continuously Improving Our Impact
While we’ve made significant progress, we recognize that sustainability is an ongoing journey. Here’s how we’re further reducing our environmental and social footprint:
Increasing Recycled Material Use
Partnering with battery recycling innovators to use 2nd life battery and aiming for 100% recyclable battery components by 2035.
Supporting Local Communities
Investing in education and healthcare initiatives near our supply chain hubs.
Collaborating with NGOs to improve mining community conditions.
